Review: The Family Trade

The Family Trade
The Family Trade by Charles Stross

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really quite enjoyed this. I think what impressed me most was that he took a relatively tired old trope - person from the modern world suddenly finds themselves in a parallel medieval-esque Earth - and turned it on its head a bit. The main character Miriam is neither unbelievably accepting nor ridiculously stupid about how she explores and comes to terms with the discovery.

She's even a lost princess, for goodness sake. And that ends up being rather more realistically complicated than it usually works out in a fantasy novel.

Looking forward to the next one.
